7/27/2025 @ The Lost Church with Austin Leonard Jones

Austin Leonard Jones and E.G. Phillips
E.G. will be opening for Austin Leonard Jones at The Lost Church in San Francisco Sunday July 27th.

The Lost Church San Francisco is a distinctive and intimate listening room for live performances located at 988 Columbus Avenue at Chestnut in North Beach.  Check this listing for available public parking.

Austin Leonard Jones was born in New Zealand in 1982, a place that humans didn't settle until the 13th century. Before that it was just chattering birds and rain on leaves. Since he played his first show on Halloween, 2010, in San Antonio, TX, those are sounds he's heard often, driving at dawn from Spokane to Billings or during a magic hour thunderstorm from Athens to Savannah. Across 12 albums, some lo-fi, some a little slick like a new matte paint job, Austin has circled the desolate core of songwriting--it's irrevocable distance in seeing clearly what should be hazy nostalgia, and the sadness that follows, with remarkable wit and cheer. His latest album, Famous Times, is amongst his finest--cut with a lapidary yet easy precision like truck stop turquoise that simultaneously s

Folk Jazz wuth Aleta Simone and Theo G
RSVP: Facebook  •  Partiful
"Folk Jazz" with Aleta Simone and Theo G
Jazz Harmonics Mixed In With Folk Music Aesthetics

Multi-instrumentalist Aleta Simone is an enigmatic and soft-spoken powerhouse with a sound that is soulful and timeless. She creates delicate and sophisticated musical arrangements that float on her dulcet fingerpicking or her quiet conversing with the piano keys. Aleta hosts her own monthly residency shows at Bazaar Cafe that are not to be missed.

Theo G is a natural disaster, a curse, a hurricane, an undertow of intricate finger style guitar, seamlessly blending folk and blues styling to support his evocative lyrics and sonorous vocals, he seeks honesty over romanticism in his writing. It is important to remember that Theo is not a good person. He is a nice person… and he’s written a few songs to show you the difference.

Hosted by the sole proprietor, and, alas, sole member of the fake band Ducks With Pants, E.G. Phillips.

The Light You Reflect With Roo Harrigan and Riley Francis
RSVP: Facebook  •  Partiful

"The Light You Reflect" with Roo Harrigan and Riley Francis
Songs of Mindfulness and Introspection

Roo Harrigan is a singer-songwriter who balances cathartic, melancholy lyrics with dancy, folk-infused melodies. Raised on the Jersey Shore, she grew up playing piano and writing sad songs for no one in her parent's basement. Recommended if you like Lizzy McAlpine, Phoebe Bridgers, or Kacey Musgraves

Riley Francis is a Bay Area-based singer-songwriter known for her evocative storytelling and raw, heartfelt lyrics. She’s been writing songs since she was 5 years old, using music as a way to express her emotions and connect with the world around her. Drawing inspiration from artists like Noah Kahan and The Lumineers, she crafts songs that feel deeply personal—almost as if you’ve lived them yourself.

With themes of mental health, loss, and self-discovery, Riley's music is both haunting and meaningful. She also has a deep love for travel, often taking her experiences from being on the road and turning them into new songs, giving her music a richness that reflects the world she’s seen. Between songs, her dark humor keeps audiences engaged, making every performance a journey—one that lingers long after the last note.

Hosted by lapsed geographer and current musical malcontent E.G. Phillips.

Chamber Folk with Mr. Andrew and Izzytime
RSVP: Facebook  •  Partiful
"Chamber Folk" with Mr. Andrew and Izzytime
Folk Traditions Plus a Touch of the Classical

Mr. Andrew (born June 3rd, 1984) is the former First Prince of San Francisco. He began his music career at the tender age of 4, singing in the Children’s Choir at the Episcopal Church of St. Mary the Virgin. His studies continued at Calvary Presbyterian Nursery School and then Cathedral School for Boys. At the age of 14 he stole his first guitar and formed the band Miso Militia, performing regularly at 924 Gilman Street and Chloe’s Garage. In 2006 he earned his Bachelor’s degree in music from the University of California in Santa Cruz and immediately began teaching and performing music for children. He has also been a member of many venerable Bay Area groups including Rin Tin Tiger, Pink Pigs, and The Under Trio.

Since his abdication, Mr. Andrew has relocated to the small town of Larkspur in Marin County and spends his free time hiking Mt. Tamalpais with his beloved dog Honey. Due to contract disputes his solo album “Chubby Mercury” and the EP “Happy Dagger/Laughing Heart” remain unreleased. And although he seldom performs live, he continues to write and record music in private.

Based in Los Angeles, California, Izzytime is the playground where creative personalities come together. In the past you could find him playing the violin as Israel Heller, exploring the quantum circuitry of the universe as Next Emissary, and performing in-depth improvisations with composer and guitarist Crecelius as the duo DECOR.

Hosted by E.G. Phillips, who is widely considered to be "too classic."

Ornithological Explorations July 12
"Ornithological Explorations" with Jenny Haniver and Rosie Cima
Birds. The theme of the show is birds.

Jenny Haniver is a San Francisco based project with songs written and performed by Natasha Jong. She is accompanied by her band to create sounds that evoke both panic and peace; attempting to tow the line between what feels good and what feels frightening. Sometimes dreamy, sometimes spooky, and sometimes chaotic, Jenny Haniver derives inspiration from many places but ultimately seeks to make music that is always honest, and always human.

Rosie Cima melds folk, punk, and art rock to support a heartfelt and often poetic lyricism. She has been described by She Shreds Magazine as “well-read, hilarious, and willing to make a statement” and by American Songwriter as "Unhinged in the best possible way." She creates original folk-inspired indie rock in the vein of Big Thief, Angel Olsen, and Hop Along.

Hosted by E.G. Phillips, who's association with birds is legendary.

Other Lands August 8th
"Other Lands" with Sam Hirst and Daniel Briggs
Songs about places distant and fantastical

Sam Hirst is a San Francisco based singer-songwriter who blends folk, rock, and jazz into his songs. Often compared to Nick Drake, Elliott Smith and the Beatles, Sam weaves the beautiful with the ugly, the dissonant with the melodic, and the off-kilter with the strangely familiar.

Daniel I. Briggs has been a director/creator/performer/singer/songwriter for the last 65 years. Based in San Francisco, He’s been a luminary in the world of performing arts who has dedicated decades to honing his craft. Weaving a tapestry of stories from legends of old to the realities of our time, and the thin veil between. He’s worked with his own theatre troupe and band-Dogs In Doublets, music director for The Mystic Midway and singer/instrumentalist for Hard Tymes, Brass Farthing, Rats In The Haggis, The Nimblelight Toy Parade and Mutual Muses.
As of late, Daniel favors the acoustic guitar and his octave mandolin.

Travelogues Sept 13th
"Travelogues" with Carly Beltramo and Mitch Rocket
Road Trips and Cognitive Maps Set to Song

Carly Beltramo is a San Francisco-based singer-songwriter whose powerhouse voice and emotional storytelling turn every song into a journey. Raised in New Jersey on a mix of musicals and classic rock, her sound today leans into the raw energy of indie rock—drawing inspiration from Stevie Nicks, Alanis Morissette, and Phoebe Bridgers. Her lyrics feel like pages from a diary—honest, vulnerable, and full of self-reflection. Carly hosts the Hotel Utah open mic every Monday and performs across the Bay Area.

Mitch Rocket is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from San Francisco, CA by way of Boston and the Ecuadorian Amazon. Drawing from a background in jazz saxophone and a love for Andrew Bird, Steely Dan, Chairlift, and Silversun Pickups, he twists saxophones, synths, and strings together into songs that run the gamut from folk-rock to jazz fusion. After emerging from the slumber of COVID with a full band of collaborators, Mitch Rocket's style has coalesced into something he calls “Yacht Grunge,” which mixes the jazz chords of Steely Dan and Stevie Wonder with the overdriven angst of Smashing Pumpkins and Soundgarden.

Hosted by once and future restless wanderer, E.G. Phillips.

"Love Songs" with Mardi Morillo and Alex Walsh
October 4: Alex Walsh, Mardi Morillo, E.G. Phillips
For his first First Friday show E.G. Phillips invites songwriters Mardi Morillo and Alex Walsh for a tribute to one of the most ubiquitous and universal forms of popular song — the “Love Song” — through what exactly constitutes a song that fits that billing may be open to “interpretation.”

After losing vision in one eye, Mardi Morillo quit his job and found music. He started writing songs and it changed his life. After being someone who was isolated and closed off. Mardi describes his songs as “my heart on a table.” He tries to make simple music from an honest emotional place that, hopefully, people can connect with.

"Alternative Americana" with Me & Louise and Tin Can Telephone
November 1st: Me&Louise, Tin Can Telephone, E.G. Phillips
Gritty, Soulful, and Raw Ballads and Reflections

Combining elements of traditional Americana music with alternative rock, folk, and country, the lyrics of this sub-genre often focus on themes of love, loss, and nostalgia while the music often has a melancholic, introspective feel. Think Wilco, Ryan Adams, and The Avett Brothers.

Me & Louise is the genre-defying band formed by bird serenader Louise Nalbandian and Ben Osheroff with his ominous visions. Rooted in American songwriting traditions and centered around the piano, their songs range from heartfelt love ballads to apocalyptic cinematic madness. You might compare them to Eels, St. Vincent, Lady Gaga, or Leonard Cohen.

Tin Can Telephone is an alt rock group from San Francisco, CA, comprised of Josh Klag, Lenny Soule-Siler, and Ajay Subramanian, who met at a bar cheering for [redacted football team that might have won Super Bowl LVIII.] They’re known for moody originals and are yet to write a happy song. Their sound is inspired by Phoebe Bridgers, Alannis Morissette, and Olivia Rodrigo. Currently, Tin Can Telephone is working on their first album titled “Gut Punch” and will release their debut single this fall.

In Our Country Eras - Jan 11th
“In Our Country Eras” with Miles Gordon and Molly Jean
Songs of the Longings of the Heart and the Madness of Existence

Hosted by E.G. Phillips, who comes from a country called "the Midwest" and creates lyric driven songs with his own special blend of whimsy and cinematic imagery.

Miles Gordon has traversed through many pockets of music in pursuit of his muse. He is currently best known as the co-creator of San Francisco queer country collective Country Risqué alongside local legend Daniel Bromfield. Their debut album Doe-Eyed Loverboys & Saints is out now via local underground label Rocks in Your Head Records.

Also a front man for psychedelic rock projects, Miles is a product of his upbringing in the latter-day Grateful Dead/jamband scene and subsequent discovery of the emotional power of Gram Parsons (journeying ever backward from there). Gordon is equally influenced by the likes of Paul Kantner, Kurt Vile, Rodney Crowell, the Everly Brothers, and George Clinton. Above all, Miles Gordon strives to make music that captures the inherent absurdity, confusion, and joy of life as he sees it, resetting the mind, soul, and whatever else along the way.

Molly Jean (aka Molly Giguiere) is a local singer-songwriter known for her unique blend of indie influences and a voice like Phoebe Bridgers and Maggie Rogers that resonates with raw emotion and power. Drawing from a diverse range of styles and inspirations from her Bay Area and South Carolina roots, she infuses her music with personal storytelling, captivating listeners with both vulnerability and strength. Her dynamic performances showcase a rare combination of passion and authenticity and she will charm you with her honest and unpretentious banter between songs.

She straddles the line between rock opera and musical theatre storytelling while exploring the dark and fantastical places in the human mind.

Ants Fujinaga plays darkly comical songs with scientific and literary references focused on a host of bizarre subject matters. Her unusual musical creations feature, among other things, Balkan rhythms, Renaissance and Celtic elements, volucrine whistling, and ornate vocals.

Songs That Paint Pictures and Tell Tales of Woe

She is a fan of heavy topics, and light sounds. She invites you to sink into your favorite surface and melt into her melodies.

Eric Martin is an indie folk rocker and singer-songwriter originally from the mountains of North Carolina. He dwells now in Oakland, CA, and sorties into San Francisco to pluck strings and loose crisp tenor laments
